2010 Thursday September 2: The Indy 500 Winning Chaparral From The Chaparral Gallery Of The Petroleum Museum In Midland, Texas Will Appear At Two Big Events In September And October. In September the legendary oval racing car will appear at the “Manifolds On Main Street Car Show” in Irving Texas, there will be several oval road racing cars in the Pavilion of Speed Marquee. A Friday September 24th banquet will feature Johnny Rutherford driver of the 2K in 1980. The Chaparral 2K Indy 500 winner will also appear at the October 9-10 Midland “Airsho” organized by the Commemorative Air Force group. 2010 Tuesday August 31: Special Invitation Racer and Auto Enthusiasts Lunch at AutoVino September 15, 2010 You Are Invited! The 2010 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion And Pre-Reunion August 7-15 Plus The Surrounding Monterey Auto Festival Events Will Be The Subject For Audience Participation And A Panel Discussion During The September 15 Racers And Auto Enthusiasts Lunch At AutoVino Menlo Park California. The Reunion with 600, and the Pre-Reunion with 300 legendary vintage and historic racing cars plus the annual 40,000 spectators make this vintage racing event the largest and best of the North American vintage auto road races. The surrounding auctions, rallies, concours of the entire Monterey Auto Festival add even more spectator attractions. Over 200,000 visitors are counted on the entire two weekends and the week between. At the Racers and Auto Enthusiasts Lunch open audience discussions and the panel will present individual experiences that create this terrific event. 2010 Thursday August 26: Vintage Auto Racing Activity For September 3-5 On The Big Labor Day Weekend IS Busy Across North America With Seven Vintage Auto Racing Events. RMVR is at Hastings, Nebraska. CVAR is at Texas World Speedway with both races and a racing school. VSCR is at Brainard, Minnesota. VSCCA is at Lime Rock Park, Connecticut SWMS is at Sandia Motorsports Park in New Mexico. VARAC is at Mosport in Canada. SOVREN is at Portland International Speedway in Oregon.

2010 Monday August 23: The 2011 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance March 11-13 Will Salute Indy 500 Winner, CART Champion, And Road Racer, Bobby Rahal As Honorary Grand Marshal. The 2011 featured Marques Will Be Dusenberg, Allard And Kurtis. This is a Concours with both a classic performance and race car focus. It also has numerous Bench Racing seminars, along with art and social events. Traditional popular features are the Saturday Bench Racing and Racer Seminars on race cars and racing legends. There are typically over 100 racing cars to be judged among the 400 vehicles in the Sunday Concours. The location is on the Atlantic Coast, Amelia Island just east of Jacksonville, Florida. 2010 Thursday August 19: Fall 2010 Victory Lane HCICA Historic Champ/Indy On-Track Showcase Presented By Vintage Oval Racing Magazine Is October 23-24 On The 1.5 Mile Paved Phoenix International Speedway October 23-24, 2010. There are two on-track sessions each day at reasonable speed with no pace car. All eras of National Championship and Indy Cars are eligible to apply. This event is organized by Victory Lane Motorsports Marketing for the Historic Champ/Indy Car Association. It is held on the same weekend as HSR-West vintage and historic road races on the PIR road circuit. This is the 14th season of HCICA events. Call Pam now to apply at 650-321-1411 (CA).

2010 Monday August 16: The Annual Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion at Mazda Raceway August 12-15 And The Pre-Reunion The Previous Weekend Together Attracted About 1,000 Vintage And Historic Cars On-Track For One Of Then Worlds Grandest Vintage Racing Events After Pre-Reunion Races The Previous Weekend, the Reunion began on Thursday August 12, with practice sessions for 19 classes, those same groups were back on Friday. Saturday qualifying and afternoon Feature races were for half the entry groups and the other half had qualifying and Feature races on Sunday. “Dan Gurney, The Cars He Built And The Cars He Drove” was the theme of the 2010 event. A survey of racers in the paddock lauded the new track management under Gill Campbell, CEO, for the “dressed up” paddock, an additional day of track time, friendly attitude of officials, the racer concierge service and especially the Rolex Drivers Lounge with coffee and lunches that all added up to a great start to the event under new management. The Sunday evening awards ceremony was highlighted by the awarding of the of the Spirit of Monterey Trophy to Pre-War Racing Group Co-Founder Graham Wallis for his overall excellence in presentation and performance of his 1929 Lagonda Two Liter. It is absolutely original and raced with vigor plus driven weekly on the street. Graham also received a commemorative Rolex Oyster Perpetual Chronograph plus a Bill Patterson original painting. Nineteen racers, one in each class, received Rolex Awards for Excellence. 2010 Friday August 13: The Indy 500 winning Chaparral 2K Built By Jim Hall’s Midland, Texas Based Team And Driven By Johnny Rutherford Will Be A Star At The Upcoming October 8-10 Midland Air Show And Car Happening. The big air show is at Midland international Airport. A special Chaparral Gallery of the Petroleum Museum exhibits and at-speed exhibitions of the famous Chaparral 2K will be an attraction for racing fans. More info will be available soon. 2010 Wednesday August 11: The Autovino Racers Lunches Scheduled Every Third Wednesday Of The Month Will Skip August Due To The Busy Monterey Historic Car Activities. They will resume September 15 at the Menlo Park, California location, 205 Constitution Drive with a program on the in-car drivers aid and data acquisition device, Traqmate by Scott Dernk of Virtuoso Performance. It is easy to install with no wires using GPS technology to measure driver and car performance. It has optional multiple sensor inputs. It has proven useful in autocross, solo and racing. 2010 Tuesday August 10: Rolex And Motorsports History Rolex has been part of making motorsports history: the official Timekeeper for the 24 Hours of LeMans since 2001 and title sponsor of the Rolex 24 at Daytona in North America since 1992. 2010 Monday August 9: The New Pre-Reunion Vintage Racing Weekend August 7,8 At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Had A Great Turnout Of Friendly Vintage And Historic Car Racers. The track CEO Gil Campbell has added many new staff members along with the experienced competition director, Cris Vandagriff from past Pre-Historics and Historics. Most racers used the Pre-Reunion as a shakedown test and tune for driver and car to get ready for the upcoming Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion this Thursday through Sunday August 12-15. The Sunday races however were well driven and competitive. As for me, Dan Davis, the Parnell Sports Racer from the mid 1960s had a good test and tune on Sunday topped by the annual celebration Sunday evening BBQ dinner at the best BBQ place in the West “The Central Texan” on Main Street in Castroville about 10 miles out of Monterey just off Highway 156 between Highway 1 and 101 on the way back to the San Francisco Bay Area. It is a racers tradition for decades. We are looking forward to the next weekend for the first annual Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion vintage racing weekend with 600 cars along with all the surrounding auctions, concours, parties, rallies that together bring about 200,000 visitors to this traditional Monterey Auto Festival Weekend.

2010 Wednesday August 4: Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival Salutes The Nation's Military, Celebrates Shelby American Marque At 13th Annual "Race At The Base" San Diego, CA. It's recognized as the birthplace of naval aviation, but on Sept. 25-26, Naval Air Station North Island will highlight a different type of machine as 250, prestigious historic race cars gather for the 13th Annual Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival
            Known as the "Race at the Base", the Fleet Week Coronado Speed Festival. features nine different race groups divided according to make, age and horsepower. The cars race at high speeds on a spectator-friendly 1.7-mile course constructed in mere days on the runways and taxiways of the military base. The track is set against the stunning backdrop of San Diego Bay.
            This year's marque will celebrate the rich race heritage of Shelby American cars, from the legendary Cobra and the Daytona Coupe to the GT40 and GT350. These amazing vehicles have always pushed the envelope of performance and promise a thrill for event spectators. A significant number of historic NASCARs will be on-track thrilling the spectators.
            Aside from being set up on an active Naval tarmac, one of the event's most distinct features is its open paddock, which allows fans the opportunity to walk right up to the cars and interact with the drivers and crew. 2010 Wednesday July 28: The Victory Lane Vintage Formula Vee Festival Races remaining on the 2010 schedule are August 19-22 with HVR Heartland Park, Kansas, September 4-8 with SOVREN Portland International Raceway, Oregon and October 1-3 with CVAR at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit Tulsa, Oklahoma. The ten events scheduled for 2010 have shown that the interest in Vintage Formula Vee racing continues to grow in most areas. Some early season races had low entries with lack of time to announce the races but the entries have been good across North America. Ideas are being developed for the 2011 season. 2010 Tuesday July 27: The Big Vintage And Historic Auto Racing, Auctions And Concours Scene At Monterey Fills Two Weekends And The Week Between August 7-18. It opens at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca with the Pre-Reunion Vintage and Historic Races August 7, 8 a spectator weekend for the first time. The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion vintage and historic races cap the racing action Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 12-18 again at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. The big Pebble Beach Concours is Sunday, August 18. Automobilia Monterey for original collectables is Tuesday and Wednesday, August 10-11 at the Embassy Suites and on the evening of August 11 at the Monterey Jet Center is the McCall Motorsports party. The quail motorsports show is Friday, August 16 and Concorso Italiano is also Friday, August 16. Auctions, Auctions, Auctions abound with classic, performance and racing cars on offer. 2010 Monday July 19: Sunday Historic Can-Am Feature Presented By Victory Lane Magazine At Kohler International Challenge With Brian Redman Topped a Full Weekend Of Vintage Races July 15-18. One P.M. Sunday the Wisconsin hills shook with the thunder of nearly three-dozen Historic Can-Am Cars taking the green flag led by pole sitter Brian Blain’s 1969 Lola 163 and challenged by Tony Garmey’s 1970 McLaren M8C. They swapped the lead for nearly 20 minutes then Garmey’s transaxle failed. Toby Bean’s 1968 Lola T70 and Andy Boone’s Gurney McEagle meanwhile were jousting for who could chase down the leaders. Ferrell Preston in his McLaren M1B was holding down a class winning position just a way back. At the chequer it was Blain taking overall and the Big Block Class, Toby Bean taking second overall and first in the Small Block Class, Boone in third overall with a second in the Big Block Class and Ferrill Preston winning the Tube Frame Class. On the podium In addition to the Kohler-Road America Class Trophies, awarded was the Denny Hulme annual trophy presented by Victory Lane Magazine and the Historic Can-Am Association given to John Woreheide for his performance and Lola activities all weekend. 2010 Thursday July 15: Road America Will Roar The Thunder Of Over 25 Historic 1966 Through 1974 Can-Am Sports Racing Cars In The Sunday Noon Feature July 18 At The Kohler International Challenge With Brian Redman Vintage And Historic Race Weekend. Over 50,000 spectators will see more than 500 unique vintage racing cars in eleven races on Sunday. Can-Am Cars of Historic Can-Am Association are gathering at Road America for two days of official practice Friday and Saturday, a Saturday afternoon qualifying race and the big Sunday 1 p.m. Historic Can-Am Feature presented by Victory Lane Magazine. 2010 Thursday July 15: VRCBC Holds Vintage Racing Weekend July 16-18 At Mission Raceway In British Columbia. A large variety of vintage Sports, Formula and Sports Racing Cars will be in action on this Western Canada road racing circuit. A special Victory Lane Vintage Formula Vee Festival Race is part of the action. Spectators are invited.  

2010 Thursday July 15: RMVR Summer Vintage Races July 17-18 Return To The Pikes Peak International Raceway Road Circuit South Of Denver Near Colorado Springs. RMVR vintage racing is growing and a good turnout of vintage and historic racing cars are entered.

2010 Thursday July 15: The PVGP Vintage Races At The BeaveRun Road Racing Circuit July 16-18 By VRG And Supported By VDCA Will Attract A Large Group Of Vintage Sports Formula And Sports Racing Cars. This Pennsylvania event is part of the weeklong auto activities leading to the big July 24-25 Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix run through Schenley Park in front of nearly 200,000 spectators who benefit from free park admission   

2010 Wednesday July 14: VSCDA Partnering With Make-A-Wish Foundation Of Wisconsin. Vintage Sportscar Drivers Association (VSCDA) with the cooperation of Road America is creating the fulfillment of the wish of three-year-old Thomas who loves anything to do with cars. He wishes to experience auto racing at Road America. VSCDA is pleased to be granting this wish at the Elkhart Lake Vintage Festival (ELVF) which will take place September 9-12, 2010.
            The ELVF is a premier weekend of vintage automobile racing for cars that primarily date prior to 1972. This year will celebrate the 60th anniversary at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin.
Thomas, his mom and five brothers and sisters will be given the VIP treatment at Road America, including lodging at the Osthoff Lake Resort. Pace Car and touring laps are planned along with waving the checkered flag to end a race. Thomas will also visit the paddock, attend drivers meetings and receive honorary steward designation.

2010 Tuesday July 13: David Swig of Bonhams & Butterfields Auctioneers & Appraisers to Speak at the Racers & Car Enthusiasts Lunch, July 21, at AutoVino. The July 21st Racers and Car Enthusiasts Lunch at AutoVino will feature a presentation by David Swig, an enthuastic vintage auto racer and Market Specialist with Bonhams. The presentation will focus on the San Francisco Bay Area Car Culture, Vintage Auto Events and the effect on buying and selling cars.
             David has been involved with performance automobiles all of his life.  He has participated in numerous vintage racing, concours and rally events as a participant and promoter.  Now as a Market Specialist at Bonhams,  David is utilizing his broad experience to keep track of emerging trends in the vibrant car culture of the Bay Area as well as the global happenings and trends of car enthusiasts.
             Enjoy a catered lunch and a presentation with David at this new auto and wine enthuasists social club which has on site: Woodside Winery, Collector Car display facilities, wine lockers, an advanced auto racing driver simulator and more.  The facility is located in Menlo Park CA.

2010 Tuesday July 13: Road America Kohler International Challenge With Brian Redman Vintage Auto Racing Weekend August 12-15 Features Historic Can-Am and Mark Donohue Reunion. Every year in mid-July over 50,000 vintage car enthusiasts make their way to Road America to celebrate the beauty and performance of the world’s greatest race cars during the Kohler International Challenge with Brian Redman, presented by Ford, July 15-18, 2010 A mid summer favorite, the event is one of the largest vintage racing gatherings in the United States and features over 500 cars in 50 classes racing in 10 groups. The four-day weekend will showcase Can-Am, a Mark Donohue Reunion and the Ford Mustang.
            The original Can-Am race series (1966-1974) had very few restrictions allowing the use of engines of unlimited displacements, weight and design, and tires of any kind. Out of those open guidelines were developed some of the fastest, most sensational and innovative sports racers ever seen. The Historic Can-Am Association (HCAA) has kept the legends alive and the HCAA expects over 30 of these great cars in the Sunday Feature Race presented by Victory Lane Magazine. The Mark Donohue reunion will celebrate the cars and the career of the late racing legend. An extraordinary collection of his winning cars from Indy, Can-Am, Formula One, IROC and Trans-Am will be on display and special guests over the weekend will include many of Donohue’s teammates from Penske Racing. As presenting sponsor, Ford will recognize its iconic Mustang with a variety of activities including a feature race, parade laps and Mustang Alley parking. On Saturday, drivers of Mustangs will be admitted free of charge.
            The two-night Concours d’Elegance is sponsored by Road and Track Magazine and features over 100 cars each night. At 6:00 P.M. Friday evening, race cars parade from the track to downtown Elkhart Lake for judging and spectator viewing until 8:00 P.M. Sports Cars gather on Saturday, 6:00-8:00 P.M. Final judging and awards are presented on Sunday at Road America. Other fan attractions include autograph sessions, an automotive art and vender fair, on-track touring and public go-karting.

Thursday 2010 July 8 Vintage Road Racers Tire Availability Alert; Certain Tire Sizes and Compounds Are In Very Limited Supply.  It is Advisable To Contact Your Tire Supplier For Vintage Racing Tires Needed for The Rolex Monterey, Other August and Fall Races Now. Vintage tires are often only made once or twice per year by major suppliers like Dunlop, Goodyear, Avon, etc.  They build based on distributor and dealer projections.  It is always helpful to give your dealer a heads-up on requirements early in the year and after the year starts purchase tires as early possible, before the tires are needed. Currently several dealers are even arranging airfreight on some sizes and compounds. If you are going to need tires in 2010 don’t wait until the last minute, you may be disappointed.

2010 Wednesday July 8: The Upcoming Weekend Of July 8-11 Has Vintage Racing Weekends At Mont-Tremblant Canada, Milwaukee Mile And Portland International Raceway. HMP Legends of Motorsports a Bobby Rahal Signature Event holds the third of its new vintage racing weekends with lifestyle happenings at the legendary Mont-Tremblant Circuit near the resort town of Mont-Tremblant north of Montreal. This is a spectator event. Oval racing fans and owner/drivers of historic Miller, Pre-War Oval and Indy Roadsters will gather in Milwaukee at the famed state fair location for the Harry A. Miller Club Millers at Milwaukee car gathering, bench racing and on-track exhibition laps.
            HMSA’s Portland Historics on the fast road circuit of Portland International Raceway will have a full weekend of vintage road racing cars. This spectator event is a traditional major event on the vintage racing schedule and should attract over 200 great racing cars.

Formerly known as the Monterey Historics this vintage racing weekend is famous worldwide as one of the largest gathering of vintage car and racing fans for a full week surrounded by two weekends of vintage and historic car happenings. 2010 Tuesday July 6: The 1971 AMC Javelin Mark Donohue Championship Winning Trans-Am Race Car To Be Sold at Russo and Steele’s 10th Anniversary Monterey Auction Event Is An Example Of The Great Legendary Racing Cars On Offer During The August 7-15 Monterey Auto Festival Week. Celebrating its 10th Anniversary this August 12-14, 2010 in Monterey, California located at the epicenter of historic, downtown Monterey, Russo and Steele has expanded to a three evening auction Thursday, Friday and Saturday.  Russo and Steele observes that it is offering some of the highest quality, most luxurious and historically significant collectable automobiles on the Monterey Peninsula; such as this Team Penske 1971 AMC Javelin Mark Donohue Championship Winning Trans-Am race car.  Penske Racing rose to glory as one of the top teams in the history of motorsports. They emphasized marques in the series. The Trans-Am series began in 1966 organized by the Sports Car Club of America, better known as the SCCA.             The 1971 season saw perhaps the pinnacle of factory involvement and the evolution of hard fought battles between the Penske team led by the legendary driver Mark Donohue and the teams supported by Ford, Chevrolet and Chrysler. The Championship car fielded by Penske Racing embodied every “Unfair Advantage” that Donohue and Penske had garnered along the campaign including the Championship Camaro of the 1969 season, and losing by a heartbreakingly narrow margin in 1970.
            Offered at Russo and Steele is the very car that won the 1971 SCCA Trans-Am Championship with seven wins out of ten events. As the only car built by Penske for his 1971 campaign, engineered to be exclusively driven by Mark Donohue and the last Trans-Am car driven by him. 2010 Friday July 2: As The Independence Holiday Weekend Heats Up The Vintage Racers Of SOVREN Are In Action At Pacific Raceway For The Pacific Northwest Historics. Spectators are invited for Saturday practice sessions and qualifying races. Sunday features start late morning and continue through late afternoon. Alfa Romeo is the saluted marque with many of these famous Italian racing cars in the races. The feature race is the USRRC Seniors Tour for pre 1965 Sports Racing and GT/Production Sports Cars. That 30 minute race usually starts the Sunday Feature action just before noon with USRRC awards ceremony at noon break. 

2010 Thursday July 1: The Motorized Monterey Wine Country Tour And Lap At Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca August 11 During Monterey Auto Festival Week. Act now there is only room for 30 couples with their cars. It all starts at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on Wednesday morning. The tour then goes to Hahn Winery, Scheid Winery followed by a picnic lunch at Boekenoogen Winery, then its on to Heller Estate Organic Vineyards and back to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca for the parade lap and concluding festivities. Monterey County has come on strong as one of the top California locations for fine wines. 2010 Thursday July 1: Triumph is the honored marque at the Heartland Park Vintage GP August 19-22 Sam Halkias will be at Hartland Park. The SCCA National Champion in DP with a TR6 in 2009. He is planning to run a vintage TR6 in the Kastner Cup and the Triumph 2009 Championship Car in exhibition.
         This is quite a piece of news for the Triumph community, The HVR club organizers are also working on bringing Steve Sargis in another Triumph (Spitfire) National Champion. Another good guy who is very fast. They are expected to join a big field for the inaugural HVR Heartland Vintage Races at Heartland Park Raceway in Kansas.
